This Oreo Mug Cake uses only a few simple ingredients including crushed up Oreo cookies. A single serving dessert that is ready in less than 5 minutes.
A 2-ingredient Oreo Mug Cake went viral recently on TikTok using just Oreos and milk. I find that adding just a few more ingredients (flour, sugar, and cocoa powder) is worth it! It gives the mug cake a better texture and flavor.

⭐Why I Love It
- Ready in Minutes - It takes only minutes to mix up and cook in the microwave.
- Single Serving Dessert - Some other favorites are this Sugar Cookie Mug, Chocolate Chip Cookie in a Mug, 3-Ingredient Nutella Mug Cake, and Red Velvet Mug Cake.
- Oreo Flavor - Such a fun use for crushed up Oreos. Pair this mug cake with a cold glass of milk!
🥘Ingredients and Equipment
- Oreos - I used original Oreos, not double stuffed. If you have extra Oreo cookies, try making this Ninja Creami Oreo Blizzard recipe!
- Milk - You can use whole milk, low fat milk, or nonfat milk.
- White Granulated Sugar
- All-Purpose Flour
- Pinch of Salt - The tiniest pinch of salt helps balance the sweetness.
- Baking Powder - A small amount helps the mug cake rise.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder - Instead of only relying on the Oreos to add chocolate flavor, I find adding a small amount of cocoa powder gives a better chocolate depth of flavor.

🔪Step by step instructions
This recipe for an Oreo mug cake takes only minutes to mix up and cook in the microwave.
Photo 1 - Crush up the oreos into a fine crumb (I like to place in a bag and crush up or you can mash up with a fork in the mug). A few clumps from the filling are okay. Add the Oreo crumbs and other dry ingredients to a mug and mix together.
Photo 2 - Add the milk and stir to make a cake batter.
Photo 3 - Top the batter with a whole Oreo cookie.
Photo 4 - Cook in the microwave until just set and enjoy!
🍽Leftovers and Storage
Mug cakes are always best enjoyed right after cooking, but if you can't eat the whole thing then you can store the rest, covered in plastic wrap, at room temperature for a couple of days.
💭Recipe Tips
- Don't Over Cook - To make sure your mug cookie moist, you don't want to over cook. I recommend checking it earlier in the cook time, because you can always microwave longer.
- Any Microwave Safe Dish Can Be Used - This recipe doesn't have to be made in a mug. You could use another dish like a ramekin or even small bowl - just keep in mind that using a different size may impact the microwave cook time.
👩🍳Recipe FAQs
An Oreo mug cake cooks in the microwave in just 1-1.5 minutes. Microwave the mug cake until it is just set - be careful. not to overcook or it will become dry.
Mug cakes should still be moist and tender with a slightly sticky consistency. You can gently touch the top to test if the cake is just set. You don't want to overcook them where they become dry.
If you cook the mug cake for too long in the microwave it can develop a tougher texture. It's best to microwave it for less time at first, then finish in 5 second increments to avoid over cooking.
