Whipped Ricotta Dip with Honey is the perfect creamy appetizer. It is super easy to make and is ready in only 5 minutes. It's great served with bread slices, veggies, or crackers for dipping.
Ricotta is a mild, Italian whey cheese that has a creamy texture. Its mild flavor pairs well with many seasonings and flavors.

Why I Love It:
- Easy Appetizer - No cooking needed, just blend up the ingredients!
- Creamy Texture - The whipped, creamy texture is amazing spread on bread or crackers.
- Customizable - There are lots of ways to customize this ricotta dip to suit your tastes!
Ingredients and Equipment
- Whole Milk Ricotta - You can buy this in a plastic container in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores.
- Olive Oil
- Lemon Juice and Zest
- Honey
- Fresh Herbs - I used fresh thyme!
- Minced Garlic
- Salt and Pepper
- Food Processor or Hand Mixer - To get that creamy, whipped consistency you'll want to use one of these vs trying to mix by hand.
- Microplane or Zester - For zesting the lemon.
Step by Step Instructions
- Blend Ingredients - Add all ingredients to either a medium bowl with a hand mixer or to a food processor. Beat or blend until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust the salt, pepper, honey, and lemon as needed.
- Serve - Finally, transfer the ricotta dip to a serving bowl. I like to give a drizzle of olive oil on top.
Serving Ideas
- Baguette Slices - for dipping
- Crackers - for dipping
- Crostini - for dipping
- Pita Chips - for dipping
- Veggies - for dipping
- Pasta - Try tossing any leftovers with cooked pasta for a quick meal.
- Sandwich/Wrap - Spread the leftovers on a sandwich or wrap.
Variations
You can add other ingredients to the mix to make different ricotta dip variations. Here are some of my other favorite additions:
- Other Herbs - like basil, rosemary, parsley, and thyme.
- Pesto
- Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Chopped Sun Dried Tomatoes
Leftovers and Storage
The dip is best served immediately, but leftovers can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for 2 days (once fresh ricotta is opened, it does not keep until the best by date on the container).
Frequently Asked Questions
Ricotta can be used raw in recipes like this dip or crostini. Or it can be used in cooked dishes like lasagna, creamy gnocchi, or on pizza.
Ricotta cheese can be eaten cold and raw on cracker. You can spread it on crackers and top with things like honey, chopped nuts, prosciutto, or even just a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Other Ricotta Recipes
- Ricotta Bake Appetizer - The creamy ricotta when baked gets puffed up and golden – it’s paired perfectly with bread slices or crostini for dipping or spreading.
- Peach Ricotta Crostini - Other than a quick grill (or toast in the oven) of the bread slices, there is no cooking required. Super impressive for a dinner party but super simple to make.
- One-Pot Pasta with Ricotta and Lemon - Only 5 ingredients (plus a few staple spices), one pot, and is ready in under 30 minutes. The ricotta and lemon sauce is creamy and comforting.

Draining Ricotta - If you open up the ricotta container and there is a lot of liquid, you can drain that off so the dip isn't watered down.
