You only need 7 easy to find ingredients to make this easy summer appetizer. Here's what you need:
- Baguette - sliced and either grilled or toasted in the oven. You can also use store-bought crostini.
- Olive Oil - If grilling the bread slices
- Ricotta - I recommend using whole milk ricotta. You can also make this Ricotta Bake Appetizer, Whipped Ricotta Dip with Honey, or One Pot Pasta with Ricotta and Lemon.
- Honey
- Peaches - You'll want to use fresh, ripe peaches not frozen or canned. If you have extra peaches, try making a dessert like this Grilled Peach Crisp recipe.
- Balsamic Glaze
- Fresh Basil
Other Topping Ideas:
There are so many fun topping ideas to pair with ricotta crostini - here are some other ideas:
- Fresh Tomatoes - Halved grape tomatoes or sliced tomatoes
- Roasted Tomatoes
- Pancetta
- Grilled Vegetables
- Sliced Pears
- Sliced Strawberries
- Extra Honey - Skip any extra toppings and just top the ricotta with a drizzle of honey and balsamic glaze
- Sun Dried Tomatoes
Step by step instructions
Crostini may be an impressive presentation but it's a cinch to make!
- Grill Baguette Slices - Start by slicing the baguette into thin slices and brushing each side with olive oil. Pop onto a preheated grill and grill for 1-2 minutes on each side until a little toasty with some grill marks.
- Mix Ricotta Spread and Slice Peaches - In a small bowl, mix together the ricotta and honey until smooth and combined. Halve and remove the pit of the peaches then thinly slice - no need to peel the peaches.
- Assemble Crostini - Spread a little of the honey ricotta on each slice of bread, top with 1 or 2 peach slices, drizzle with balsamic glaze, and sprinkle with thinly sliced basil.
- Serve Immediately
Frequently Asked Questions
Crostini translates to "little toasts" in Italian. They are small slices of toasted bread (typically a baguette) that are topped with various savory toppings. Common toppings are cheese like ricotta and fruit or vegetables.
If you don't have a grill or don't want to fire it up, you can also toast the bread in the oven. Add the olive oil brushed bread slices to a baking sheet and toast in a 350 degrees F oven for about 5 minutes until toasted.
If you don't like ricotta, you could swap in goat cheese. You could either buy a spreadable goat cheese or mix up your own goat cheese spread by blending goat cheese with the honey and a little bit of olive oil to make an easier to spread consistency.
Make Ahead Tips
While I don't recommend fully assembling the crostini in advance, you can prep the ricotta. The honey ricotta can be mixed together up to 2 days in advance - give it another stir right before using.
