How To Air Fry Frozen French Fries for results that are perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and soft on the inside, and golden brown. Not only faster than baking frozen fries in the oven, but they're so much better!
You can use the air fryer to cook any cut or style of fries - scroll down for cook times for different varieties!
Why I Love It:
- Fast Cooking - Most cuts of frozen fries cook in only 10 minutes
- Crispy - The air fryer gets them perfectly crispy without deep frying!
- No Oven Needed - When you air fry frozen French fries instead of baking in the oven, you save on preheating time and don't heat up your kitchen!
Ingredients
Although all you really need is a bag of fries, two additional simple ingredients help make them even better!
- Frozen French Fries - You can use any cut or style of fries! Waffle fries, crinkle cut, fast food style, curly fries, sweet potato fries, and more!
- Cooking Spray - Although this step can be skipped, it helps get them extra golden and crispy
- Salt - I love to give them a sprinkle of salt.
How To Make Frozen Fries in the Air Fryer
The steps to air fry frozen French fries are as simple as you would expect! They cook fast than they do in the oven and the results are crispier.
- Add to Air Fryer - Start by placing the fries in your air fryer basket. It's okay if they're overlapping a little bit - but don't fill the basket more than ½ full.
- Spritz with Cooking Spray (Optional) - For best results, spray the fries with a little cooking spray.
- Air Fry - Air fry at 400 degrees F for the designated time (depending on style of fries). Give the basket a shake about halfway through.
- Serve - They're done when they're crispy and golden to your liking. Give a sprinkle with a little salt and serve.
How Long to Cook Frozen French Fries in Air Fryer
- Fast Food Style Fries: 7-10 minutes
- Waffle Fries: 10-12 minutes
- Crinkle-cut Fries: 10-12 minutes
- Curly Fries: 10-12 minutes
- Steak Fries: 12-15 minutes
- Shoestring Fries: 5-8 minutes
Variations
Try tossing the frozen fries with a seasoning blend or spices. To help the seasoning stick, you'll want to give a spritz of cooking spray or add a small amount of oil.
- Taco Seasoning - Store-bought or homemade taco seasoning.
- Cajun Spices - Use a Cajun or Creole spice blend
- Fajita Seasoning - Similar to taco seasoning, Fajita seasoning is also great with fries. Try making a mix from scratch using this recipe.
Equipment Needed
- Air Fryer - I used a basket style air fryer, but you can use any style of air fryer. Since some air fryers can run hotter or colder than others, the cooking time may vary slightly.
Leftovers, Storage, Reheating
Although they're best served right after cooking, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can reheat them in a 375 degrees F air fryer for 3-4 minutes until warmed.
Recipe Tips
- Shake Basket - Shake basket halfway through for even cooking
- Don't Overfill - Don’t overfill the air fryer basket. It’s best not to fill the air fryer more than ⅓-1/2 full. They don’t need to be in an even layer, but if they’re piled up too much they won’t cook evenly.
- Cook Time Varies - Depending on the thickness of your fries and your air fryer, the cooking time may vary by a minute or two. It’s best to peak at the fries and adjust the cooking time as needed.
Frequently Asked Questions:
You don't need to add extra oil when cooking them in the air fryer. You can add a spritz of cooking spray to help them get extra golden and crispy.
No need to defrost them! You will air fry them straight from the freezer.
While preheating isn't needed, doing so can help foods get extra crispy. If your air fryer doesn't have a 'preheat' button, then you can just let it run empty for a few minutes to warm up.
Serving Ideas
Bring on the dipping sauces!
- Ketchup
- Fry Sauce - Mix together equal parts mayo and ketchup. I like to add a little paprika and tiny pinch of cayenne pepper as well.
- Ranch Dressing
- Chipotle Mayo
- Queso or Cheese Sauce
Other Air Fryer Recipes
- Air Fryer Grilled Cheese - Perfectly golden, crispy, with gooey melted cheese. No need to watch the stove to get perfect grilled cheese every time!
- BBQ Chicken in the Air Fryer - Tender, juicy, and coated in slightly caramelized barbecue sauce. Coat the chicken thighs or breasts with a spice rub to add extra flavor.
- 'Baked' Sweet Potato - Making Baked Sweet Potatoes in the air fryer is so easy and the results have crispy skin and tender, fluffy insides. The best part is they cook faster in the air fryer than in the oven!

Such a good tip to make them in the air fryer! Especially if you only need a smaller portion.
