Cooking steak tips in the air fryer gives amazing results! The air fryer uses high heat and a fan that circulates the heat around so that the outsides get a crispy crust without overcooking the inside. The results are flavorful and super tender! Lately I've been using this Ninja Air Fryer and I love it!

They pair well with so many sides, such as veggies and potatoes. some of my favorite pairings are Boursin Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Rainbow Carrots, Crispy Roasted Baby Potatoes, and Roasted Broccolini. Or add to a leafy green salad, such as a Caesar salad

    ⭐️Why I Love Them:

    • Fast Cooking - The steak tips cook in as little as 4 minutes!
    • Super Tender - I love how tender and perfectly cooked steak tips in the air fryer are.
    • Garlic Butter - While this is optional, it is simple to mix up and adds so much flavor.
    • Easy Clean Up - If you tried cooking these in a pan on the stove to get the same results, there would likely be some grease splatter to clean up, but not with the air fryer!

    🥘Ingredients

rib eye steak on cutting board.

Pick up a steak from the store and then grab the rest of the items from your pantry for an easy recipe!

    • Steak - Such as a Rib Eye or New York Strip steak
    • Olive Oil - You can swap in another oil like canola oil or avocado oil.
    • Spices - Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Salt, and Pepper. Coating the steak bites in oil and spices before cooking adds extra flavor!
    • Garlic Butter - Melted Butter, Garlic Powder, and Dried Parsley. The garlic butter is optional, but recommended!

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    📖Substitutions and Variations

    • Other Seasonings - I like to keep my steak seasoning simple with the garlic, onion, and salt and pepper. You can do just salt and pepper or add your favorite steak seasoning!
    • Cook in Skillet - If you don't have an air fryer, you can cook the steak tips in a skillet. Heat up a heavy skillet, like cast iron, over medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon or so of oil and cook the tips for 1-2 minutes on each side.
    • Cook on the Blackstone Griddle - Steak bites are great on the griddle! Try this recipe for Blackstone Steak Bites with Garlic Butter.

    🔪Step by Step Instructions

You can have tender steak tips ready in under 10 minutes, start to finish!

    seasoned steak cubes in bowl.

Photo 1 - Start by cubing the steak into 1-inch bites. Toss the steak cubes with the olive oil and spices so they are evenly coated.

raw steak tips in air fryer.

Photo 2 - Add the coated steak tips to your air fryer (don't overcrowd the basket) and air fry at 400 degrees F for 4-7 minutes. I prefer medium-rare so I cook them for 4-5 minutes.

    garlic butter in bowl.

Photo 3 - If using, while the steak is cooking, melt the butter and mix with the garlic and parsley.

cooked steak tips in air fryer.

Photo 4 - Allow the steak tips to rest for 2-3 minutes before tossing in the garlic butter and serving.

    🍽Leftovers and Storage

Storage - Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Reheating - Whenever you reheat steak leftovers, you want to do it until it is just warm so that you don't overcook the steak. You can reheat in the air fryer for just a minute or two or in a skillet on the stove.

Leftovers - I love using the leftovers for breakfast in the morning - you can't beat steak and eggs!

    💭Recipe Tips

    • Trim Large Pieces of Fat - When cubing the steak, I like to trim any large pieces of fat and discard.
    • Don't Overcrowd - You want there to be room for the hot air to circulate, so make sure the steak tips aren't touching or overlapping. If you double the recipe, you may need to cook in two batches.

    👩‍🍳Recipe FAQs

How long does it take to cook steak in an air fryer?

When cooking steak bites or steak tips, they cook fast! The cook time will vary based on how big your pieces are and your preferred doneness. About 4 minutes for Medium-Rare or 7-8 minutes for Medium-Well.

What setting do I put my air fryer on for steak?

You can use the regular air fryer setting for steak and cook it at 400 degrees F.

Does steak need to be flipped in an air fryer?

While steak does not need to be flipped to cook through, I like to flip it so that you get the good browning on both sides.

    • Yield: 1-2 servings
    • Category: Main, Air Fryer
    • Method: Air Fryer
    • Cuisine: American

    Ingredients

    Steak Tips

    • 8 ounces steak, such as Ribeye or New York Strip
    • ½ tablespoon olive oil
    • Pinch of garlic powder
    • Pinch of onion powder
    • Pinch of kosher salt
    • Pinch of ground black pepper

    Garlic Butter

    • 1 tablespoon salted butter, melted
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon dried parsley

    Instructions

    1. Optional - Preheat the Air Fryer - You preheat an air fryer by letting it run empty for about 5 minutes so that the basket gets hot. This helps get a better crust on the steak tips, but they will still turn out great if you forget to do this step!
    2. Cube Steak - Cube the steak into 1-inch bites. You can cut off and discard any large pieces of fat or connective tissue.
    3. Season Steak Tips - Toss the steak cubes with the olive oil and spices so they are evenly coated.
    4. Air Fry - Add the coated steak tips to your air fryer (don't overcrowd the basket) and air fry at 400 degrees F for 4-7 minutes (flipping after 2-3 minutes). The cook time will vary on your preferred steak doneness. I prefer medium-rare so I cook them for 4-5 minutes.
    5. Garlic Butter - Mix up the melted butter with the garlic and parsley. Allow the steak tips to rest for 2-3 minutes before tossing in the garlic butter.
    6. Serve - Serve immediately and enjoy.

    Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Whenever you reheat steak leftovers, you want to do it until it is just warm so that you don't overcook the steak. You can reheat in the air fryer for just a minute or two or in a skillet on the stove.
