Rolo Pretzel Turtles are the easiest Christmas and holiday treat around! They use just 3 ingredients and barely any prep or cook time. They last for weeks so are perfect to make in advance. Make a big bowl of these festive treats for your next holiday party.

Pretzels with rolos and pecan halves on parchment paper

    What You’ll Need:

    • Bag of Pretzels – Either squares or mini twists.
    • Rolos - Rolo are chocolate candies that are filled with caramel. You'll find them in the candy aisle of almost any grocery store.
    • Pecan Halves

    How to Make Them

    1. Prepare the Ingredients. Start by unwrapping the Rolos. Perfect task for kids!
    2. Line a Baking Sheet. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to make easier removal.
    3. Layer the Treats. Create an even layer of pretzels on the baking sheet and top each pretzel with a Rolo.
    4. Bake. Bake in preheated oven for about 3-5 minutes until the Hug is starting to soften.
    5. Top with Pecans. Remove from oven and press a pecan half into each softened Rolo.
    6. Allow to Chill and Set. Place baking sheet in refrigerator to allow Hugs to harden again.

    Tips and FAQs

What kind of pretzels should I use?

I love to use the holiday shaped pretzels to make the treats extra festive. But you can also use the small pretzel squares, circles, or even mini twists.

    The perfect kid-friendly treat!

These are perfect to get the kids involved. Let them help unwrap the candies and place the rolos on the pretzel. Safe ways to get even the youngest kids involved in the kitchen.

Can these be made in the microwave?

Yes! you can make these pretzels with rolos in the microwave. I include microwave instructions and oven instructions in the recipe card below!

I prefer the oven method because I can make a bigger batch at a time, but this is perfect option if you don't want to heat up your oven or if you don't have one (looking at you college dorm rooms).

Can I use a different caramel filled chocolate candy?

Absolutely! I've only made these with Rolos, but swapping a different caramel chocolate candy should work just fine.

The cook time may vary slightly, so keep an eye on them and cook just until the chocolate starts to soften.

How long do these Christmas Pretzel Treats last?

Leftover pretzel kisses can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 weeks.

Tip! Don’t melt the chocolates fully.

You want the Rolo to still have some shape. I recommend removing from the oven, testing one with a pecan or the back of a spoon.

If you can’t smoosh the chocolate down enough, you can put the sheet back in the oven for a minute or two.

If you bake too long the chocolate will fully melt into a puddle.

    Give them as gifts!

Because these treats last so long, they are great as gifts. You can wrap some in a cellophane bag with a holiday ribbon, fill a small mason jar or holiday tin.

Perfect DIY holiday gift or hostess gift.

    • Method: Oven, Microwave
    • Cuisine: American

    Ingredients

    • 10.6 ounce bag Rolo chocolate candy, About 50 pieces in a bag
    • 50 small pretzels
    • 50 pecan halves

    Instructions

    Oven Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 250°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
    2. Place pretzels on prepared sheet in one layer. Top each pretzel with an unwrapped Rolo.
    3. Bake 3 to 5 minutes until the Rolo begins to soften, but is not melted. Remove from oven and top with pecan half.
    4. Allow to cool completely. I like to place in the fridge for 10-20 minutes to fully set.

    Microwave Instructions

    1. Line microwave-safe plate with parchment paper.
    2. Place pretzels on the plate in a single layer and top each pretzel with one unwrapped Rolo.
    3. Microwave at 50% power for 30 seconds or until the rolo has softened slightly. If needed, microwave for an additional 10 seconds.
    4. Carefully slide parchment paper and pretzels onto counter top. Top with a pecan half. Allow to cool completely. I like to place in the fridge for 10-20 minutes to fully set.

    Notes

Toasted Pecans - I prefer to toast the pecan halves, but you can use the pecans as-is for an easier prep.
