Why I Love It
- 3 Ingredients - All you need is banana, pineapple, and almond milk (or other liquid).
- Tropical Flavors - The combination of banana and pineapple gives this smoothie a tropical flavor
- Frozen or Fresh Fruit - I love using frozen fruit but if you have fresh fruit you can use that along with some ice cube.
Ingredients
- Banana - Fresh or frozen!
- Pineapple Chunks - Fresh or frozen!
- Almond Milk - I prefer to use plain, unsweetened.
How To Make a Banana Pineapple Smoothie
- Prep Ingredients - If you fruit isn't already cut up, you'll want to slice up the banana and chop up the pineapple for easier blending.
- Blend Smoothie - Add all ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.
- Enjoy - Smoothies are best enjoyed immediately after blending.
Substitutions
- Other Liquids - Instead of almond milk, you can use another plant-based milk such as oat or soy or even regular milk. You can also use a juice, like orange juice, apple juice, or pineapple juice, for a sweeter smoothie.
- Other Fruit - Try swapping in or adding a berry like strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries.
Variations
- Protein Smoothie - Add a scoop of protein powder to make a protein-packed smoothie.
- Green Smoothie - Add a scoop of greens powder or a handful of spinach leaves to make a green smoothie.
- Sweeter Smoothie - If you prefer a sweeter smoothie you can add a little bit of honey, a splash of fruit juice (like orange), or more pineapple.
Equipment
- Blender - There really is no substitution for this, you'll need a blender of some kind (I prefer a strong, high powered blender) to make the smoothie.
Leftovers and Storage
Blended fruit smoothies are best enjoyed right after blending. If you put the leftovers in the fridge, it will melt down and lose its frothy texture. You can freeze the leftovers then thaw in the fridge until it is still thick and frothy.
If you want to prep this in advance, try making a smoothie pack! See tips below.
How To Pre-Pack the Smoothie for the Freezer?
- Freeze Ingredients – In a freezer bag, add the pineapple and banana. Place bag in freezer for up to 3 months.
- Blend – When ready to blend, add contents of the bag and the almond milk to a blender. Because we froze all ingredients, we don’t need to add ice cubes. Blend away! Blend until smooth.. about 1 to 2 minutes.
Recipe Tips
- Ice Cubes - If you don't use all frozen fruit, you will need to add a handful of ice-cubes to get that cold and frothy smoothie texture.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can use milk in the smoothie. I love to use almond milk, or other plant-based milk but you can use regular milk as well.
My favorite way to thicken a vegan smoothie is by adding ice cubes or more frozen fruit.
How to easily clean a blender?
Did you know that blenders almost clean themselves? I recommend doing this right after you pour your smoothie into a glass. If you let the blender sit and dry, the fruit will become stuck on and harder to remove.
- Fill with Water – Fill your dirty blender about half full with warm water.
- Add Dish Soap – Add just a couple drops of dish soap to the water.
- Blend – Close the lid on the blender and blend for about 30 seconds. The warm soapy water will swish up the sides.
- Rinse – Finally just dump out the soapy water, give the blender a rinse with warm water, and that’s it!
Other Smoothie Recipes
- Mango Orange Smoothie - Thick, healthy, and just 4 ingredients. It blends together in just a minute. Loaded with lots of Vitamin C, this smoothie is perfect for boosting your immune system.
- Blueberry Almond Smoothie - Making the smoothie with almond milk and almond butter gives a creamy texture while the blueberries add a beautiful color.
- Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie - Gives you the best excuse to have some chocolate for breakfast! It's a dairy-free smoothie using almond milk and almond butter for a protein boost.
