This Air Fryer Apple Crisp is simple to make all in one bowl and cooks right in your air fryer. Cooks in under 30 minutes and ready to be topped with a scoop of ice-cream.

A classic Fall dessert that is so easy to make homemade. It's delicious still warm out of the air fryer or even at room temperature. For serving, Vanilla Ice-Cream is a must, in my opinion! But you can also give it a drizzle with a caramel sauce.

Other favorite apple recipes are this Cinnamon Sugar Apple Cake, Apple Crisp in a Mug, Apple Crisp Bars or Chicken Apple Sausage Mason Jar Salad.

    ⭐Why I Love It:

    • One Bowl Recipe - There is no need to use multiple bowls for this recipe. Start by tossing the apple slices with the sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl then transfer to the pan. Then you can use that same bowl (no need to even wipe it clean) to mix up the oat topping.
    • Crispy Oat Topping - The crispy topping is my favorite part and pairs well with the tender apples. I also love this Grilled Peach Crisp recipe with a similar topping.
    • Air Fryer - I love not having to heat up my oven and being able to use my air fryer.

    🥘Ingredients:

    apple crisp ingredients in bowls.
    • Apples - I like to use Granny Smith apples for baking. If you have more apples left, try making this Apple Dutch Baby Pancake for breakfast.
    • White Granulated Sugar
    • Cinnamon
    • Cornstarch - this helps thicken the apple filling.
    • Lemon Juice
    • Rolled Oats - you can swap in 'quick oats' for the classic, rolled oats as well. With extra oats, try making this Banana Bread Baked Oats recipe.
    • All-Purpose Flour
    • Brown Sugar - I like using dark brown sugar, but light brown sugar works too
    • Unsalted Butter - You can use salted and just lessen the salt
    • Kosher Salt

    📖Variations

    • Apple Crisp in Oven - For a classic recipe that is baked in the oven try this Apple Crisp Recipe (with oats).
    • Single Serve - Instead of using a small cake pan, you can also use a few small ramekins to make single serving apple crisps. The cook time will need to be lessened, so I recommend checking after 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes for the foil cooking step.

    🔪Step by Step Instructions:

This Air Fryer Apple Crisp preps in 10 minutes or less and bakes in less than 30 minutes! The perfect crowd-pleasing dessert!

Photo 3 - In the same bowl from the apples, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Then stir in the melted butter to make the crisp topping. You should be able to squeeze the topping together and have it hold its shape - like wet sand.

Photo 5 - Cover the crisp with foil then air fry for 15-20 minutes. The foil helps cook the apples without burning the topping.

Photo 6 - Remove the foil and air fry again for about 5 minutes until the topping is golden brown and crispy. Allow to cool slightly and enjoy!

    💭Recipe Tips

    • Evenly Slice the Apples - Slicing the apples into an even thickness allows for even cooking.
    • Peeling is Best - While you can leave the apple skin on, the peel gets a chewy texture. The most popular approach is peeling the apples first.
    • Let Cool Before Serving - Letting the crisp cool a bit before serving helps the juices thicken up.
    • Cover with Foil - If you try to make an apple crisp in the air fryer without covering in foil, then the crisp topping will over cook and get burnt before the apples are cooked.

    🍽Leftovers and Storage

Leftover apple crisp can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can either cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or transfer to an air-tight container.

    👩‍🍳Recipe FAQs

What apple is best for apple crisp?

I like to use Granny Smith apples for an apple crisp. They have a tart flavor and are firm enough to hold their shape. Some other good baking apples are Fuji, Haralson, and Cortland. You can even mix and match multiple apple varieties.

What is the difference between apple crumble and apple crisp?

While both an apple crisp and apple crumble are a baked apple dessert, the main difference is the topping. A crisp topping typically contains oats to give it its 'crispiness' and a crumble topping is similar to a streusel topping made with butter, flour, and sugar.

Do you put oats in apple crumble?

Oats are typically not used in the topping for an apple crumble. Oats are used in an apple crisp topping.

How do you thicken apple crisp?

Adding cornstarch to the apples in the apple crisp helps thicken the apple juices and sugar. The other key is to let the crisp cool a bit before serving as it will thicken as it cools.

    • Yield: 2-4 servings
    • Category: Dessert
    • Method: Air Fryer
    • Cuisine: American

    Ingredients

    Apple Filling

    • 2-3 small apples, depending on pan size
    • 1 tablespoon white granulated sugar
    • 2 teaspoon cornstarch
    • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    • ½ tablespoon lemon juice
    • Cooking Spray

    Crisp Topping

    • ⅓ cup oats, classic rolled oats
    • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 2-3 tablespoons melted butter, adjust so topping has a wet sand consistency

    Instructions

    1. Prep - Grease a small cake pan (I used a 6" that fits in my air fryer) with cooking spray. Peel the apples and cut into small pieces (I slice into ¼" slices then cut the slices into 3 or 4 pieces).
    2. Apple Filling - In a medium bowl, toss the apple slices with the sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Toss well to evenly coat. Transfer to the greased pan and spread into an even layer. Make sure to use a pan that fits in your air fryer.
    3. Crisp Topping - In the same bowl from the apples, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Then stir in the melted butter to make the crisp topping. You should be able to squeeze the topping together and have it hold its shape - like wet sand. Scatter the crisp topping over the apples in an even layer.
    4. Air Fry with Foil - Cover the crisp with foil then air fry for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees F, until the apples are just ender if you pierce them with a sharp knife. The foil helps cook the apples without burning the topping. The cook time will vary on your pan size and size of apple pieces.
    5. Air Fry again without Foil - Remove the foil and air fry again for about 5 minutes at 350 degrees F until the topping is golden brown and crispy.
    6. Enjoy - Allow to cool slightly and enjoy!

    Notes

Leftover apple crisp can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days.
