Air Fryer Baked Potatoes are an easy side. Super crispy skin, but tender and soft on the inside. Making potatoes in your air fryer will be your favorite way. These are seriously the BEST baked potatoes!

Using your air fryer vs your oven keeps your kitchen from heating up - perfect for warm summer months! But my favorite part is the extra crispy skin on the baked potatoes. Serve them in a simple way with just a little butter and salt & pepper or pile on the toppings for a loaded potato. You can also use russet potatoes to make these Hasselback Potatoes.

How to Make Baked Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Just rub the russet potatoes with a little oil then sprinkle with salt and garlic powder. Add to the air fryer and let the air fryer do the rest of the work. It's that easy.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Baked Potatoes:

    • Russet Potatoes - Russet Potatoes are the classic choice for baked potatoes, but you can use a different potato of your choice. Just be aware that small potatoes will need less cook time.
    • Olive Oil - or other cooking oil of choice. You can even give them a spray with cooking spray.
    • Salt, Pepper, and Garlic Powder
    • Optional Toppings: Butter, Sour Cream, Fresh Chives, Shredded Cheese, or Crumbled Bacon

    What is an Air Fryer?

An air fryer is essentially a compact countertop convection oven. A fan circulates the hot air at a quick speed which creates a crispy layer on foods without needing to fry in oil.

    Is Air Fryer food healthier?

The air fryer lets you cook foods using very little oil - significantly less than what is used for pan frying or deep frying. But you can still get foods nice and crispy and golden. I also love making these Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings and Air Fryer Chicken Nuggets.

How long should you cook potatoes in the air fryer?

For a whole baked potato made with a medium russet potato, it takes about 35-40 minutes at 400 degrees F. The cook time will vary on the potato size - when done, they'll be tender when pierced with a fork or knife.

    Recipe Notes and Tips

    • Don't crowd your air fryer. The size of your air fryer will impact how many you can make at a time, in my air fryer I stick to 3-4 potatoes at one time. There needs to be a little room between each potato so the skin can get crispy.
    • Choose potatoes that are all a similar size for even cooking. If your potatoes aren't all the same size, you can remove the smaller potatoes earlier in the cooking process.
    • Use tongs or oven mitts to remove the hot potatoes from the air fryer. Be careful not to burn yourself!
    • Make Loaded Baked Potatoes - I love turning baked potatoes into a filling loaded baked potatoes. For a fun spin, try these French Onion Baked Potatoes.

    Leftovers, Storage, and Reheating

Leftovers and Storage: Leftover Baked Potatoes can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 4 days.

Reheating: The potatoes can be reheated in the microwave or in the air fryer at 350 degrees F until warmed through.

    • Method: Air Fryer

    Ingredients

    • 3 medium Russet Potatoes, amount of your choosing
    • 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
    • ½ teaspoon Kosher Salt
    • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder

    Instructions

    1. Prepare the Potatoes. Rinse and scrub the potatoes clean then dry. Using your hands, rub the potatoes with the olive oil so they are thinly coated. Sprinkle with the salt and garlic powder, rubbing it so it's evenly coated.
    2. Air Fry. Add potatoes to air fryer and air fry at 400 degrees F for 35-40 minutes until they are tender when pierced with a knife and the skin is crispy. The cook time will vary depending on the potato size. I like to check for doneness starting at 30 minutes.
    3. Enjoy! Serve with your preferred toppings.

I love using my air fryer when I don't want to heat up my oven. This was a great trick!
